This 2 bedroom cottage, which sleeps 4, looks like a typical chocolate box cottage on the outside, with its white walls, thatched roof and cottage garden plants. However, respecting the original cottage features, the interior of the cottage is surprisingly chic and classy. It is very tastefully furnished with high quality furniture, refined soft furnishings, well-placed lighting and interesting artwork and decorations.
The location is in the beautiful and picturesque coastal village called Thurlestone, which is situated in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, with one of the most dramatic coastlines in South Devon. From Vine Cottage, it is just a 5 minute walk to the coastal footpath. Thurlestone was originally a tiny coastal hamlet, but now home to a gloriously sited hotel with Spa facilities, a popular golf course, a tennis club, a great pub called The Village Inn. The grade II listed village church has a Norman Font in its ancient chapel and is steeped with history to explore. Conveniently, Thurlestone also offers a post office/village store and a bus service.
The village takes its name from the impressive coastal rock formation Thurlestone Rock – an arch shaped rock just off the main Thurlestone Beach. The village streets are lined with thatched cottages dating back to the 17th century.
Vine Cottage is quintessential luxurious thatched cottage set back off the road in the lovely village of Thurlestone. It is ideal for those looking for a break away in a beautiful cottage that has been furnished and decorated to a very high standard to be enjoyed by guests during their stay. The main entrance is through the kitchen door in the walled garden, following 2 short sets of steps. But for an elderly or disabled person an exception can be made to use the front door which enters through the sitting room. Please bear in mind that there are different levels inside, which can be reached by a short set of steps. The cottage is not suitable for very young children or wheelchairs.
After closing the white garden gate behind you, you are welcomed by an oasis of beautiful patio plants in the sheltered and cosy walled garden. On your right hand side you will, conveniently, find hooks and hangers on the wall to dry out your wetsuits and beach towels and there is plenty of space for wellies and/or walking boots out here too.
The back door leads you straight into a vaulted, light and airy open plan kitchen, dining and snug area. This room has been tastefully laid out with fine furnishings and the painted kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for your self-catering holiday. Overlooking the beautiful walled garden through the bay windows, the sitting area offers you a selection of very comfortable armchairs to relax, read, talk, or watch television. This television has Smart TV & Netflix.
Leaving the kitchen, following a hallway, you will find a modern bathroom on your left, with a bath, a wash basin, toilet and towel radiator.
Next to the bathroom, you will come to the spacious and airy twin bedroom, which has comfortable box spring beds, a side table, a wardrobe and extra shelves for storage.
Opposite the downstairs bathroom, up a short staircase, you will find the double ensuite bedroom at the front of the house. This modern bathroom has a walk-in shower, a wash basin, a toilet and a towel radiator.
From the window seat in this bedroom, you can look out to the other characteristic thatched cottages in the street.
At the end of the hall, down a short staircase this time, you will find yourself in a very cosy more formal sitting room, complete with wood burner, a comfortable 2 seater sofa, 2 armchairs and window seat. Please note that the ceiling here is low and suitable for those under 6ft. The television here is SKY-TV. Beautiful artwork decorate this chic and stylish room, where you can easily unwind and make plans for another lovely day.
Special note from the owner
Vine Cottage is a secret, from the front you would never imagine how beautiful and serene it is, until you enter though the high white gate.
My walled courtyard is my constant pleasure, giving me seclusion, whilst surrounded by lovely plants.
I am very fortunate to live in this beautiful part of England.
