Behind its traditional cottage exterior, Cracklefield Cottage is surprisingly spacious, with comfortable accommodation arranged over three floors. Four bedrooms, generous living areas and two family bathrooms provide plenty of room for up to eight guests, making it an ideal choice for family holidays, group getaways and relaxed seaside escapes

Steeped in history, charm and local folklore, Cracklefield Cottage is a characterful 17th-century holiday cottage in the heart of beautiful Bantham, South Devon. Dating back to the 1600s, the cottage takes its name from ancient deeds referring to the area as the “Field of Crackle”.

Once part of the neighbouring Bantham House estate, local legend suggests the cottage was used to conceal smuggled goods during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, its original character blends beautifully with modern comforts, creating a welcoming South Devon holiday home for families and groups seeking a memorable coastal escape.

Spacious Accommodation for Up to 8 Guests

Arranged across three floors, Cracklefield Cottage offers four comfortable bedrooms, generous living spaces and two family bathrooms, providing an ideal base for family holidays and group getaways.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed, ample storage, wash basin and lovely views across the South Hams countryside. A cosy double bedroom has charming sloping ceilings, storage and its own wash basin, while a bright twin bedroom overlooks the enclosed garden.

A second twin bedroom is tucked away on the top floor, with Velux windows and elevated countryside views. Accessed via a steep staircase, it makes a fun and cosy retreat for older children.

Two family bathrooms are located upstairs, with a separate downstairs cloakroom and laundry facilities providing additional convenience.

Traditional Kitchen & Comfortable Living

At the heart of the cottage is a traditional farmhouse-style kitchen and dining room, featuring exposed beams, an original stone fireplace and a large family dining table. The well-equipped kitchen includes an oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and everything needed for relaxed self-catering.

The spacious lounge offers two comfortable seating areas, a wood-burning stove, Smart TV, DVD player, Wi-Fi, books and games. After a day exploring Bantham Beach or walking the South Devon coast, it is a warm and welcoming space to relax and spend time together. A side door leads directly from the lounge to the enclosed garden.

Enclosed Garden & Outdoor Dining

The enclosed cottage garden provides a peaceful outdoor space with a raised grassy area, bench seating and a sunny patio with outdoor dining furniture and barbecue. Perfect for morning coffee, family lunches or an evening drink after a day by the sea.

A Wonderful Location in Bantham

One of Cracklefield Cottage’s greatest attractions is its location. Bantham Beach is within walking distance, along with the village pub, local shop and South West Coast Path.

Spend your days swimming, surfing, paddleboarding or exploring the spectacular South Devon coastline, before returning to the cottage for a relaxed evening by the fire.

Bantham also provides an excellent base for exploring the wider South Hams, with Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Thurlestone, Bigbury-on-Sea and Dartmouth all within easy reach.

Parking

The cottage has one private off-road parking space. Additional vehicles can be parked in the public car park at Bantham Beach, where charges may apply.

From summer beach days and coastal walks to cosy evenings beside the wood-burning stove, Cracklefield Cottage offers a memorable South Devon holiday experience, combining historic character, comfortable accommodation and an enviable location close to Bantham Beach.
